Sunday Education Programs

On Sunday mornings during the beginning of the the 10:00 a.m. service, discipleship programs are provided for preschoolers through 8th graders, with childcare for infants and toddlers. Adults worship in the sanctuary throughout the 10:00 liturgy, reuniting with their children before the Eucharist.

Nursery for Infants & Toddlers

Infants and toddlers are provided loving care in our nursery on Sunday mornings. Jill Brown has been our nursery caregiver for more than a decade.

Summer Worship Center-Spark room
For children four years-old and those entering the fourth grade in the fall
Begins May 31st through August 30th

Samuel heard his message in the middle of the night.  Mary heard her message from an angel.  The disciples were hard at work when they heard their message.  They all heard God’s special message just for them!  Message Received: Hearing God’s Call lets children know through the stories we share and response activities we will do together that God continues to call all kinds of people-including them!

Worship Center/Godly Play
for Preschoolers & Kindergarten – 2nd graders

Preschoolers are invited into the stories, rituals and traditions of Christian faith through a hands-on, Montessori-based program. They discover colors, characters, and words of Christian faith. We encourage this age level to continue in their natural wonder and joy.

Kindergarteners through 2nd Graders meet together, the older ones helping the younger. This age range begins to have a foundation in the practices and seasons of Christian life. Continuing in a hands-on program, they begin to be able to tell God’s stories using wooden figures, and learn to see one another as friends in Christ.

Our curriculum uses lessons from the Godly Play curriculum (as described in the video below) and Worship Center, a local adaptation written by the Rev. Colette DeNooyer.

Spark! Activate Faith  3rd through 5th Graders

As beginning and stronger readers, these children are ready to discover Scripture. Each student receives their own Bible and is encouraged to write in, highlight and sticker it to make it their own. Through active and reflective lessons, they become familiar with the whole Spark Bible and learn to relate the stories of Scripture to their lives and the world around them. Each Sunday they hear and engage one of the same lessons that adults hear in the sanctuary as part of the Revised Common Lectionary cycle. This enables family conversation on topics of faith at home.

Learn more about the Spark! Bible, and view samples of the Bible used in the classroom, by clicking here. (St. Andrew’s students receive the hard-cover version which is suitable for gift presentation.)

6th through 12th Graders

As middle and high schoolers, these students ask the difficult questions about life and faith. Our Sunday morning classroom is a great place for conversation and learning. We foster their growth in faith with curriculum resources that reinforce the basics of Christianity, provide instruction in the characteristics of the Episcopal Church, and invite their active thinking and response. Often students of this age prefer to worship upstairs with their families. In order to encourage all youth to grow into worship, the program includes a monthly time of worship with the wider congregation.
